Via the Romanian Clubul Antreprenorilor there's a link to a piece of news claiming that in Romania 41.4% (note the figure :)) of the Romanian SMEs were connected to the internet and 10% had an online presence such as a corporate website. In (most of) the Romanian acception a corporate website is just a static, 4-page tool playing a (descriptive) marketing role. For a comparison, in the US 30-40% of the SMEs have a website and the figure will will cross 50% in two years time.

Will people in Romania ever use websites as they are used in the states, more specifically will it ever become part of the regular joe's everyday routine. I'm also an ex-pat living in the states getting my degree at the Miami.edu School of Business and I definatelly plan on going back to Romania and starting numerous ventures. I've been there on a couple of ocassions recently and i just dont see the discretionary income available to the masses to make an ebay.com or amazon.com work as they are in the states. I believe the only way to ammeliorate the situation is by making computers available to the masses at lower costs through ad-subsidized machines, sort of like an all-advantage computer program. Great blog and keep up the good work. Hopefully we can usher in this new technological medium so that we can increase productivity and usher Romania back into the golden age it once found itself (good ole ceasca with a capitalist tilt of course).
