Google's got a blog updated by Evan Williams. The story got slashdotted with people rambling about the uselessness of blogs. And in this tone I also changed the poll from the right.

Home on. As we all know almost all Slashdotters are wankers. Not all but about 70% of the commenters at Slashdot are useless trolls. Who just yek for the sake of yekking and being 'different'... Give me a break. And I voted on the poll. ;-)
I mean 'Come on'...
I think the reason for starting a blog on Yahoo is strongly related to the Blogger overhaul. As you might know Google bought Blogger last year and this is the first major update of the Blogger interface and functionality since that 'fusion'. Many were asking by that time what will happen with blogger after the purchase but nothing too important happened until now.
You can read more about the new design in Douglas Bowman's weblog Stopdesign and also over at Dan Cederholm's Simplebits.
I'm obviously very tired. Replace Yahoo in the comment above with Google. Yahoo's got nothing to do with it. Sorry.
Obviously Blogger was acquired without a clear purpose since blogs don't offer a viable business model at the moment. I am not a Blogger user (@rgumente is 100% in-house conceived) but some would argue that the change was made considering that the user base is mostly composed of idiots. I think it was a necessary adjustment design though since competition such as Movable Type is way ahead in this respect.
I used blogger back in 2001 for a few posts. It was a nice experience and I bet it got better since the overhaul but I would still choose Typepad for a turn-key blogging solution even if it's not free. The Blogger templates may look cool nowadays but the technical side and the number of features of Typepad clearly make it a winner. At least in my eyes. I'm eagerly waiting for Movable Type version 3 though.
